Pulaski County Fiscal Court approved a resolution authorizing application to the Lake Hurlingen district for up to about $140,000 to provide Starlink satellite units to the county’s fire departments.
Judge Martin told the court the grant would provide resilient communications for rural departments during disasters and said the application “will cost the county absolutely nothing” to submit. Court members asked whether departments would pay recurring monthly fees if Starlink were used as an everyday Internet provider; the judge and staff said monthly charges may apply but details "will be known before we get our grant done." The court also noted individual departments control their own local subscriptions and billing.
Mister Ranshaw moved and Mister Strunk seconded the resolution; the court approved the motion by voice vote. The county staff said options remain for departments to enable or disable Starlink service when not needed, and that final decisions about replacing existing service would be left to each fire department.
