Pulaski County Fiscal Court voted Oct. 28 to purchase a Caterpillar motor grader after reviewing two sealed bids.
Clerk and staff opened sealed bids for a Case motor grader (Wilson Equipment Company) and a Caterpillar unit from Boyd/Cat. County staff reported warranty and service differences: the Caterpillar bid included an 84-month, 7,000-hour powertrain and hydraulics warranty and 1 year unlimited coverage, while the Case bid offered a three-year, 3,000-hour warranty. Staff recommended the Caterpillar because it met municipal specifications and Boyd Cat can provide local maintenance.
Mister Wilson moved to buy the Caterpillar and Mister Ranshaw seconded the motion. After discussion about past delays in warranty repairs, the court approved the purchase by voice vote.
Court members discussed placing machines on local service plans and insisted on clear maintenance and loaner-equipment terms if units are in warranty service for an extended time.
