Otsego council hears updates on heritage, parks, planning, safety and infrastructure

Councilmember Corey told the council the history commission met Oct. 14, has one meeting left before a winter break and is hosting a cemetery tour on Thursday with 17 people signed up.

Parks and Recreation staff said they reviewed community engagement results for Lily Pond park improvements and vendor proposals for playground equipment; the parks group recommended a budget adjustment for the playground equipment line item to reflect current pricing.

Planning commission chair Ryan reported the commission recommended approval of Meadows third edition and recommended amendments to the interim land-use plan, zoning ordinance and transportation plan; the commission's meetings through November were canceled and the next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 1.

On public safety, Chief Scott and staff reported Allina has been approved to hire two additional medics and that the chief has been meeting with neighboring fire chiefs and will continue monthly coordination. The Public Safety Commission reviewed its mission statement and staff noted the commission's purpose is grounded in city code; council discussion concluded that a broader code review could occur when department roles are finalized.

Public works reported several projects: Casa 42 trail is open; Eightieth Street should open later in the week; the Costco roundabout has been paved and awaits signage and lighting before opening; Odeon Avenue water main work is wrapping up and paving for 70 Seventh Street is scheduled for November, weather permitting.

Sergeant Altman of Wright County urged drivers to slow to 25 mph in neighborhoods for Halloween and said law enforcement will focus patrols in neighborhoods to keep trick-or-treaters safe.
