At the start of the Oct. 27 meeting, resident Paula McBride asked the Community Redevelopment Agency to consider using CRA funds to replace aging playground equipment at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Park Avenue near Church Street. McBride said the park’s original equipment is worn and neighborhood children use the park frequently.
Board members discussed whether CRA funds could be used for play equipment given recent allocations to other park projects and a skateboard park. Commissioner Reid and others questioned prior statements about eligible uses of CRA funds; staff indicated CRA funds could be used and suggested placing the request on a future CRA agenda for fuller consideration and staff response.
Board member Giobi specifically requested the item be scheduled at a subsequent meeting so staff could present options and any budget implications. The request was noted and will return to the CRA agenda for staff analysis and a potential decision.
