The Opelika Planning Commission voted to send a positive recommendation to city council to rezone a Crawford Road frontage parcel from R‑1 to C‑3 to accommodate onsite parking and storage for a local moving and landscaping business.
Applicant Antoine Harvest told the commission he plans to “use the frontage of the property … for parking of our moving trucks and some lawn equipment and things of that nature,” and said no structural changes are planned at this time. Engineering staff told commissioners that water is available from an 8‑inch main on Crawford Road and that power will be served by Opelika Power and Tallapoosa River Electric Co‑op.
Commissioners discussed potential sewer-extension responsibilities if the property were further developed; staff said future developers would typically be responsible for extending sewer infrastructure at their expense. The commission voted to recommend the rezoning to city council; the recommendation will be considered by city council in a future meeting.
