Council directs staff to keep natatorium operating through April election subject to budget constraints

Administration had earlier included a $400,000 transfer in the adopted budget to support the recreation center through the upcoming period; staff said the funding should permit operation through the spring unless equipment or mechanical failures require unexpected repairs beyond currently budgeted amounts. Council members debated whether a separate formal affirmation was necessary because the budget already allocated funds; others said an explicit direction would give pool users and potential partners clarity.

Councilmember Nathan moved the direction and Councilmember Andrew seconded. In a voice vote the motion carried; the clerk recorded two nay votes: Tina and Nathan. Staff and administration reiterated that continued operation is contingent on mechanical reliability and available funds, and that administration will proceed to manage operations under the existing budget authority while coordinating with Phelps Health and community stakeholders.
