Mayor Leonard D. Jones Jr. read a proclamation recognizing Shirley Botts’s centennial and highlighted the Botts family’s long ties to Grandview and the local school board. The proclamation recited biographical details provided at the meeting: Shirley Botts was born on Oct. 26, 1925, attended the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps program and graduated from Independence Sanitarium and Hospital in October 1948; she later practiced as a nurse for approximately 38 years and was married to James Walter Botts in 1949. The proclamation noted she lived in Grandview for about 60 years and was a member of Community of Christ Church for 92 years.
"I am very pleased and very thankful and very and so happy about this all of this going on," Shirley Botts said at the podium.
The board presented yard-of-the-month awards for Ward 1 (recipients not present), Ward 2 (Rosary and William) and Ward 3 (Marcia and Roger). Certificates and city memorabilia were handed out and the mayor thanked winners for making Grandview more attractive.
These items were presented as ceremonial recognitions; no legislative or budgetary actions were associated with the presentations.
