Wisconsin Women's Business Initiative asks for continued Kenosha support for lending and training

Regional staff from the Wisconsin Women's Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) presented an overview of services and asked the advisory committee to consider continued CDBG support for the Southeast regional office, which provides business training, lending, Kiva access and a veterans-business outreach center.
"We've been around since 1987 serving the state of Wisconsin," Regional Director Heather Luxe said. Luxe and Christina Gibson described the Southeast team's six staff positions, bilingual outreach capacity, and a shift to quarterly training scheduling to better meet entrepreneurs' needs.
Presenters noted WWBIC's lending programs do not compete with banks and that the nonprofit partners with financial institutions to place clients where appropriate. They described the organization's Kiva and 0% PEBA loans, veteran loan fund and industry-specific outreach for food service and childcare businesses.
Committee members thanked the presenters and noted past city allocations; staff recounted recent Kenosha awards in the $75,000 to $91,000 range. No formal vote was taken at the presentation; allocation decisions will be made at the committee's subsequent meeting.
