Kenosha Safety Fund seeks CDBG support after receiving Rotary safety center building; initial estimates rose to near $100,000

Representatives of the Kenosha Safety Fund told the CDBG advisory committee the nonprofit recently received the Rotary Safety Center building and is seeking funds to update infrastructure for growing community programming.
"I'm Tyler Cochran," Cochran said. He and board member Gus Arellano described the Safety Center as a long-running community hub for school groups, cadets and neighborhood programs, and said the Rotary transferred the building earlier this year.
Presenters said the center hosts large community events and daily school visits and that increased activity has exposed the building's limitations: lack of exterior electrical, no outdoor water access for grounds or vehicle washing, inadequate bathrooms and aging exterior finishes. They said early cost estimates for required upgrades were roughly $50,000, but that an updated contractor estimate pushed some scopes closer to $100,000.
Committee members asked whether applicants would seek more bids or reduce scope; Cochran said he and partners will pursue further quotes and work with contractors to pare costs where possible. The applicants asked the committee to consider partial funding and said they would prioritize critical items first.
No formal action was taken during the hearing; allocation decisions will be made at a later meeting.
