Bergen family pledges $15,000 to recreation department; council to vote on donation and updated rules

Saratoga Springs City staff told the council that the Bergen family, through PSB Transitions of Saratoga (a 501(c)(3)), has dedicated $15,000 to the Saratoga Springs Recreation Department; the city has already received $5,000 and a $100 gift card. Staff said the funds will be used primarily to expand no-cost programming under the department’s "Try Sports for Free" initiative and that the Bergen family plans a Kentucky Derby Gala in May to raise additional funds for recreation programming.

Staff thanked the Bergen family and said the council would vote on accepting the donation at the next meeting. In the same section of the agenda staff previewed updated Recreation Department rules (redlined changes included in agenda materials) and said that item will also be on the upcoming agenda for discussion and vote.

No formal acceptance vote or adoption of the rules was recorded at the Oct. 31 meeting.
