Maricopa County Supervisor Debbie Lesko told Sun City residents she and community leaders are exploring a local ordinance to curb deceptive door-to-door solicitors, after residents reported salespeople posing as utility representatives to sell rooftop solar.
Lesko said the idea is in early discussion and could take forms such as enforceable "no soliciting" signs or limited solicitation hours. She said enforcement would require coordination with the sheriff's office and that volunteer groups such as the Sun City Posse could help by investigating complaints in their neighborhoods. "One of the proposals ... is if you put a no soliciting sign on your door, then people cannot solicit you," Lesko said; she added that the sheriff's office must confirm enforcement capacity before any ordinance would be drafted.
Lesko also described county services for seniors, including the SAIL (Senior Adult Independent Living) program that provides in-home assistance and Maricopa County partnerships to teach computer skills and online safety at senior centers, including the Olive Branch Senior Center.
