A presentation on the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) that had been scheduled for the City of Surprise Veterans Disability and Human Services Commission’s Oct. 8 meeting was postponed after staff said the presenter was unavailable amid a federal government shutdown.
Staff liaison Danielle told commissioners the presenter, identified in meeting materials as “Abe,” was unable to attend because an auto-response indicated the presenter’s inbox was not being monitored and programs were suspended for the duration of the shutdown. Staff said there was no formal motion to table the item; the commission will reschedule the presentation once federal activities resume and the presenter is available.
Staff also said they had attempted to line up an alternate presenter and contacted multiple organizations but were not successful ahead of the meeting. No new date was set during the Oct. 8 meeting.
