Resident questions hotel-motel fund spending and returns

Ameris Faith said the July 1, 2025 budget projection expected roughly $100,000 in revenues and cited city checkbook entries showing higher expenditures. "For example, 07/01/2025...the city expected to sow a $100,000 and to reap a $100,000...According to the checkbook, it cost $178,316 and returned only $44,000," she said, and asked the council what the $600 listed for Valentine's Day had purchased and whether the small items were appropriate uses of hotel-motel funds.
She urged review of items that draw visitors and asked that every budget item "make sense to the citizens and benefit the citizens of this community." The mayor acknowledged the comment period and reminded the public that council responses to non-agenda items are limited to factual information and directing staff to follow up.
