Missoula issues three November proclamations: children’s grief, epilepsy awareness and "Fire Eater Day"

The Missoula City Council recognized three community observances during its Oct. 27 meeting.
Mayor Andrea Davis proclaimed November as Children’s Grief Awareness Month and invited Mikayla Bilyeu of Tamarack Grief Resource Center to speak. Bilyeu told the council that Montana statistics show higher-than-average bereavement among youth and emphasized the role of advocacy and support services in preventing negative outcomes.
The council also proclaimed November Epilepsy Awareness Month. Jessica Veach, executive director of the Montana chapter of the Epilepsy Foundation, said the foundation provides programs for people and families affected by seizures and called for public education and stigma reduction.
Finally, the council proclaimed a November observance tied to the Museum of Mountain Flying’s acquisition of an A-26 Invader wildfire-fighting airplane known as the Fire Eater. Jeff Badnock, a volunteer with the museum, said the plane will be celebrated at a ticketed event on Nov. 8 and then be viewable at the museum.
All three proclamations were presented as ceremonial recognitions and received brief remarks from guest speakers.
