Hemet council authorizes temporary Simpson Center use for Valley Community Pantry

The Hemet City Council on Oct. 28 approved a resolution authorizing a temporary facilities-use agreement to allow the Valley Community Pantry to operate from a portion of the Simpson Center until June 30, 2026.
City Attorney Steve Grama Pacifico summarized the staff report: the pantry, which has provided emergency groceries and related assistance in the San Jacinto Valley for decades, requested temporary space after being forced to leave its previous location. The resolution authorizes the city manager to execute a limited interim agreement while the pantry secures a permanent location.
Acting City Manager Noah Rowe told the council the exact portions of the Simpson Center to be used are still to be finalized and that staff will meet with the existing tenant and the pantry to identify spaces that will not displace current programs.
Council Member Tom Lodge moved the resolution; Council Member Connie Clark seconded. The roll call vote was Clark: Yes; Lodge: Yes; Mayles: Yes; Mayor Pro Tem Krupa: Yes; Mayor Peterson: Yes. The motion passed 5-0.
Staff said the temporary authorization is limited in scope and duration, and that further details about specific rooms and schedules will be worked out with the Simpson Center tenant and the pantry as part of the temporary-use agreement.
