Board recognizes November 2025 as National Care at Home Month, honors IHSS care workers

The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 28 adopted a resolution recognizing November 2025 as National Care at Home Month and honoring in‑home supportive services (IHSS) care workers.

Supervisor Williams introduced the resolution, noting that the National Alliance for Care at Home and the Caregiver Action Network designate November to honor both paid and family caregivers who assist older adults and people with disabilities.

Mike Watson, manager of IHSS and the IHSS Public Authority, told the board the county supports providers and thanked supervisors for their backing of the public authority and advisory council. Several long‑serving advisory board members and caregivers described daily responsibilities and the physical and emotional demands of caregiving.

"Without caregivers, many consumers would struggle to manage daily life and might face the challenges of institutional care," said Susan Raci, an advisory‑board member who said she has served nearly 20 years.

Marlon Osom, an IHSS provider, highlighted recent county publications—the Solano Master Plan for Aging and Disability and an older-and-differently-abled adults resource guide—and thanked the board for support.

The resolution passed by a 5‑0 vote, and supervisors and staff invited caregivers and advisory‑council members to take photos with the board.

Ending: The board encouraged continued partnerships with the Food Bank, public authority and community agencies to support caregivers and residents who rely on home‑based supports.
