Council authorizes $63,100 construction‑administration amendment for Southeast Eighth Street project

Mr. McAndrews described the Southeast Eighth Street project as multiple related segments: a widening from Elm to Larch and two sidewalk sections, one federally funded (College to Birch) and one TIB funded (Birch to Larch). He said the presented amendment is for construction administration services on the Birch‑to‑Larch portion.

"This is adding $63,100 for construction administration services, for the birch to large portion of the project," Mr. McAndrews said, explaining the consultant would assist with on‑site observation, quantity verification and project paperwork during construction.

Council members asked clarifying questions about why additional construction administration was needed; staff explained that design contracts typically cover work through bidding and that construction administration is a customary, separate amendment to oversee construction compliance with the design. A motion was made to authorize the public works director or designee to sign the contract amendment increasing the Southeast Eighth Street Birch‑to‑Larch contract by $63,100 for construction administration services to a total contract value discussed in the motion; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.

The amendment covers construction‑phase services only; separate federal and TIB funding sources for the project segments were noted but not amended in this action.
