Ryan, a commission member, told the Leitchfield Tourism and Convention Commission that the city council took a formal step by passing a resolution enabling City Manager Steve Meredith to pursue potential state funding for the proposed HealthPlex.
"The city took a first big step. I commend them for doing that," Ryan said, describing the council’s vote as a commitment to let staff seek available state dollars. He emphasized the project remains contingent on the amount — if any — of state support the city secures. "Who knows what we get, if any. But, I think once we have that answer, we'll have our road map ahead of us on how we're gonna get there," Ryan said.
Commissioners asked about the chronological next steps; Ryan and staff said the first substantive milestone is state funding confirmation, after which a detailed project roadmap, budget and partnership structure would be developed.
The commission encouraged continued coordination with county and regional partners and noted the city’s action allows the request for state funding to proceed but does not commit the commission or city to final project costs without later approvals.
