At the end of the Oct. 28 meeting commissioners raised recurring inconsistencies in downtown historic‑district and façade petitions and asked city planning staff to produce a standardized application form.
Commissioners said some recent petitions had high‑quality renderings while others contained sparse or handwritten information. To reduce inconsistent submittals and improve transparency, the commission asked staff to prepare an application checklist that specifies minimum exterior documentation (for example, façade elevation drawings, sign dimensions and materials, and representative streetscape renderings). The full commission agreed to have a small subcommittee work with staff to draft the application; the subcommittee will return a recommended application and checklist for public consideration and a vote by the full commission.
City planning staff clarified the subcommittee’s work would not replace ordinance requirements but would standardize what petitioners provide so the commission can make consistent, timely decisions. The commission instructed staff to circulate the draft application to commissioners and bring the proposal back to the commission at a future public meeting for adoption.
