Edgar County Board approves holiday calendar, sheriff MOU, appointments and property actions

At its Oct. 8 meeting, the Edgar County Board approved several non-highway items on its consent agenda, including the county’s 2026 holiday calendar, a memorandum of understanding for a deputy agreement with the sheriff’s department, multiple appointments and a property action involving parcels tied to Veneta Roberts.

The 2026 holiday calendar was provided by the Illinois Supreme Court and the board made no changes; board members noted Election Day was not listed as a holiday unless the board acts to declare it locally. A county official confirmed the calendar does not list Election Day and said county offices will be open unless the board chooses otherwise.

The board approved a memorandum of understanding for the sheriff’s department related to a deputy agreement; the discussion at the meeting did not include contract terms or funding details.

Appointments carried by voice vote included the appointment of Rita Rogers to the county 708 board to fill the vacancy left by Diane Nicks’ resignation, and the appointment of Rick Eason to the 911 board to fill the vacancy left by Chad Grama; Eason’s appointment carries a term ending November 2026, as stated at the meeting.

The board approved an item relating to seven parcels associated with Veneta Roberts — six parcels in the city of Paris and one in the village of Kansas. The record in the meeting did not include further detail about the nature of the parcel action.

Board members also received budget materials for all departments and were asked to review them and send questions to staff prior to future budget discussions.
