Historic River District reports increased outreach, volunteer hours and fall events

The Ozark Historic River District told aldermen volunteers logged more than 3,000 hours in 2024 and previewed fall events including an Oct. 18 walking tour and a Christmas parade presence in November.
Diane Richardson, representing the Ozark Historic River District, briefed the Board of Aldermen on recent and upcoming activity in the district.
Richardson said volunteers attended the Missouri Main Street conference in St. Charles and invested over 80 hours in professional development during that trip. The district has worked on increasing its social‑media presence, produced rack cards that were distributed at local events, created portable sandwich‑board signage with QR codes, and launched a kickoff series at Findlay Farms. She listed upcoming fourth‑quarter events including a historic walking tour on Oct. 18, a videography session, the Christmas parade in November and Friday Night Lights in December. Richardson said the group's board retreat was postponed to Oct. 21 to allow a longer volunteer retreat.
On projects, Richardson reported a private downtown business is pursuing a Missouri Main Street grant for tuckpointing, a new downtown business completed a major renovation and extended vendor spaces, and the city's street improvements represent public investment paired with private activity. She said HRD logged over 3,000 volunteer hours in 2024 valued at about $103,000 under the state's valuation and that a kiosk project has been delayed by staffing changes at the signage company but is back on schedule pending resolution.
Richardson answered aldermen's brief comments and thanked the board for support; no formal action was requested.
