A staff member identified in the meeting as the fire department chief described the equipment as a power‑loader system with two arms attached to ambulance cots that stabilize and lift patients for safer loading. "It allows us to, number one, save wear and tear on the bodies of the first responders. But it also allows us to ensure safety loading the patient into the back of the ambulance," the chief said, adding the system can handle patients up to about 700 pounds.
Board members asked about installation timing and transferability. The chief said that if the ordinance was approved the city could likely have the systems installed by the next day and that systems can be removed and reinstalled into other ambulances by a technician to preserve warranties.
The ordinance authorizes payment to Stryker for the three power‑loader systems. Roll calls during readings recorded the following affirmative votes: Alderman Maloney (aye), Alderman Rousley (aye), Alderman Randolph (aye), Alderman Jones (aye) and Alderman Turnbaugh (aye). The bill was advanced through readings and enacted.
