The Monongalia County Commission on Oct. 29 approved a list of delinquent tax tickets to be suspended from certification to the county auditor and authorized the tax office to proceed with certification steps.
Kelly Palmer of the tax office presented the 2024 suspension list and said the total number of tickets to be suspended is 2,352. Palmer also asked the commission to remove 10 properties from suspension status so those parcels could be included in the certified list because a deed issue had been resolved. Commissioners approved the list and later voted to amend the language to refer specifically to the "suspension" list rather than the more general "delinquent" label.
Palmer clarified payment logistics: taxpayers may pay in person through Friday, Oct. 31 (office open until 4:30 p.m., with staff recommending arrival by 4:00 p.m.) and were advised to pay early online because system overloads in previous years caused outages when many taxpayers tried to pay at the last minute. The commission approved the motion to allow the tax office to proceed as presented.
