Kelly Palmer, presenting on behalf of the sheriff’s office, told the Monongalia County Commission that the 2024 delinquent tax suspension list will be certified to the county auditor on Oct. 31 and asked commissioners to approve the suspension list.
Palmer said the total number of tickets to be suspended is 2,352 and asked that a separate group of 10 properties be removed from suspension status so those properties can be included in the certification process because a deed had been issued and the county can collect taxes. “The total number of tickets to be suspended is 2,352 tickets,” Palmer said.
A commissioner moved to approve the 2024 suspension list and to allow the tax office to proceed as indicated. During the vote the commission amended the motion wording to use the term “suspension list” instead of “delinquent list” to reflect that the items are being suspended from certification; the amendment and the motion passed unanimously. Palmer advised taxpayers that payments will be accepted through the auditor’s office through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, and recommended arriving by 4:00 p.m. or paying online earlier because the county’s payment system has experienced overloads near deadline days.
