Red Bluff accepts donated 1992 flatbed truck from Tehama County for fuels work

The Red Bluff City Council voted Oct. 7 to accept a donated 1992 International flatbed truck from the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department for use in fuels-reduction and other public-works tasks.
Fire Chief Bachmeier described the vehicle as a large, four-wheel-drive flatbed comparable in size to the city’s courtyard dump trucks and similar to equipment used by Cal Fire. He said the truck has a gross vehicle weight that requires a commercial driver’s license and that county probation staff had previously used it for storm relief and sandbagging. "It is 4 wheel drive... the gross vehicle weight requires a commercial driver's license," Bachmeier said, adding the county had surplused the vehicle to the city.
Bachmeier estimated bringing the truck to full service would likely cost "$1,000 to $3,000" for fluids, tires and some decking work. City staff and council members thanked the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office and County Board of Supervisors for the donation. The council approved acceptance of the vehicle by voice vote; there was no reported opposition.
A caller asked whether the truck is subject to California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations because of its model year; staff said they did not have an immediate answer and would follow up. The council did not attach any conditions to the donation beyond standard maintenance and repair tasks.
