Board adopts proclamations and recognizes schools; Old Kings named School of Excellence
Summary
After routine business the Flagler County School Board read and adopted proclamations recognizing Family Engagement Month, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Holocaust Education Week and Native American Heritage Month, and honored Old Kings Elementary as a School of Excellence.
Following completion of voting on Oct. 28, 2025, the Flagler County School Board read and adopted multiple proclamations and recognized local schools and student work.
Proclamations adopted - November 2025 as Family Engagement Month in Flagler County (presented by Doug Glasgow). The resolution encourages family involvement from preschool through college and commends resources developed by district leaders to support family engagement. - October 2025 as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (presented by John Fanelli). Representatives from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and the Family Life Center attended; the proclamation cites statistics and calls for community involvement. The Family Life Center reported providing more than 5,800 service hours to victims in the past year. - Nov. 10–14, 2025 as Holocaust Education Week (read by K-12 social studies specialist Jessica Butler). The proclamation references required instruction under Florida statutes and emphasizes honoring victims and survivors. - November 2025 as Native American Heritage Month (read by student representatives Eva Muldoon and Olivia Delgado).
Recognitions and spotlights - Old Kings Elementary School was recognized as a Florida School of Excellence for the third consecutive year; district staff noted the school's grade calculation places it in the top 20% for comparable grade groups and that every student subgroup showed academic progress. - District representatives announced student artwork chosen for Art in the Capitol (Aidan Shendon, Buddy Taylor Middle School) for display during the 2026 legislative session.
