Council hears sewer-district funding update, 2026 budget timetable and Parks & Rec event reports

At the Oct. 27 Mayfield Heights City Council meeting, Councilmember Talvin reported on the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s community cost-share program and local outreach events. She said the district has $48 million in community cost-share funds; Mayfield Heights’ share was $1,096,259.57 as of Sept. 30. Talvin reported a projected 2025 cost for the city of $174,202.30 (with 90% already collected) and noted the city appears on the MIC project map with a $3,000,000 entry.
Talvin also announced public outreach and educational opportunities: a Sewer University workshop and plant tour on Nov. 7 at the wastewater treatment plant on Lakeshore Boulevard (14021 Lakeshore Blvd.) and a Utility Assistance Resource Fair hosted by Cuyahoga Community College on Nov. 15 to help residents learn about utility cost-reduction programs. She additionally mentioned environmental work by the district, including sturgeon reintroduction in the Cuyahoga River and stocking freshwater mussels.
Director of Finance Mascally said the 2026 budget is nearing completion, department-head reviews are ongoing this week, and the budget will be presented to council at the first November meeting. The finance committee will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to review the 2026 budget and third-quarter financial results.
Recreation and Parks reported on recent community events: a theatrical dinner production on Oct. 16 with over 130 guests, a Halloween event on Oct. 24 hosting about 200 attendees, and a fall community cleanup on Oct. 25 with more than 20 volunteers. Staff announced a new Holiday Fest scheduled for Dec. 5 and encouraged residents to view private Halloween displays around the city.
