Danville selects Spahn Ranch to design Millennium Park skate‑park; commission OKs start of $50,000 design phase

The Danville City Commission accepted a design‑build proposal from Spahn Ranch Skateparks on Oct. 27 and directed staff to negotiate a design contract to update the Millennium Park skate park.
Josh (Public Works staff) told the commission the city received five proposals and narrowed the field using a small review committee (city staff and a county magistrate). He recommended Spahn Ranch based on the firm's experience and the scope of work it proposed. The vendor's proposal includes a $50,000 line item for the initial design contract that staff plans to bring back for formal approval.
"We're recommending that we partner with Spahn Ranch Skateparks, as the company that we've selected because they were the product they were gonna be able to provide for that amount of money was much greater than the other proposals," Josh said. He told commissioners that the proposal presented renderings and an option set that would use primarily concrete features and could include a pump track and other elements suitable for skateboards, scooters and bikes.
The commission specifically declined to commit construction funding at the Oct. 27 meeting. Staff and Spahn Ranch will complete design work, perform public outreach and return with cost estimates and a formal construction recommendation. The agenda item was amended at the meeting to remove a published $800,000 construction estimate from the resolution; that dollar figure will be finalized only after design and further budget discussion.
Josh and Parks & Recreation staff said they will involve current facility users and the broader public during the design phase. The commission asked staff to return with a negotiated design contract and schedule.
