Santaquins Development Review Committee on Oct. 28 tabled a request to add east/west stop signs at the intersection of 120 East and Royal Land Drive until updated traffic counts can be collected after nearby roadwork concludes.
Staff told the committee Royal Land Drive was designed as an east-west collector and that recent counts taken while Center Street north of the intersection was closed showed fewer than 400 vehicles per day through the intersection. Staff cited the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidance that typical warranting volumes for stop control are much higher (engineering thresholds such as multiple thousands of average daily trips or documented crash history). The staff report noted one recent accident at the intersection but said it did not appear to be related to speed or heavy traffic.
Committee members agreed the counts were likely skewed by closures and recommended retesting when adjacent roads reopen. John (staff) moved to table the request "until those 2 roads are open, and we can get a, an updated study." Aspen seconded; the motion was approved by voice vote.
The item will return to the committee with new traffic counts and any additional crash data collected after roadway work is finished.
