Crisis Ready Howard County promotes winter-prep tips, offers free QPR training

Crisis Ready Howard County used its Public Health Minute to urge households to prepare for incoming cold weather and to announce a free QPR suicide-intervention training offered in partnership with 4 c Health.

The short segment listed signs and symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia, offered tips to stay warm, and identified populations at greatest risk from extreme cold. The host said the QPR trainingwhich stands for Question, Persuade, Referis a suicide-intervention program that aims to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by teaching participants how to recognize crisis signs and refer someone to help.

Organizers said 4 c Health will provide the training for free and that the session will be scheduled separately from Crisis Readys regular presentation. Benson stated that attendees should be at least 16 years old due to the sensitivity of the material.
