Select Budget Committee members reviewed amendment SPD 108A on Oct. 30, which would proviso $4,900,000 in general-fund dollars to be used for the Technology-Assisted Crime Prevention program that coordinates CCTV activities and the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). Greg Doss, central staff, told the committee the funding would be used for cameras and RTCC staffing and that the proviso would ensure the funds are spent for those purposes.
Council member Kettle, sponsor, said the amendment reflects the committee's oversight responsibilities and described consultations with RTCC staff, Chief Barnes, the chief public safety officer Walton Anderson, Deputy Mayor Burgess and Mayor Harrell. "We need to do this program right, to ensure that t's are crossed and i's are dotted," Kettle said.
Council member Rivera added her name as a cosponsor during the meeting. The transcript shows discussion and cosponsorship but does not record a formal vote on SPD 108A during the Oct. 30 session.
