Alamogordo commissioners adjourn into executive session to discuss city manager recruitment

The Alamogordo City Commission on Oct. 28, 2025 voted 7-0 to adjourn into an executive (closed) session to discuss limited personnel matters related to its city manager recruitment.

The session was called after commissioners unanimously approved the meeting agenda earlier in the proceedings. The mayor announced agenda item 1 as an adjournment into an executive closed session "in compliance with 10-15-1" to discuss limited personnel matters, specifically the city manager recruitment.

A staff member introduced Armand Dar of Trifacta as an attendee for the closed session. Commissioners debated briefly whether to hold the closed session in the chamber or move to a conference room; the body elected to go to a conference room and to close down the microphones before adjourning the public meeting.

The motion to adjourn into the executive session was made by Commissioner Mark Tapley and seconded by Commissioner Warren Robinson. The vote tally recorded on the public record was 7-0 in favor. Earlier in the meeting, a separate motion to approve the agenda was moved by Commissioner Warren Robinson and seconded by Commissioner Crystal Guthrie; that motion also passed 7-0.

No substantive discussion about the city manager recruitment occurred in the public record; the announcement and procedural actions were the only public items related to the personnel matter. The public portion of the meeting concluded when commissioners left the chamber for the closed session.
