Putnam County says Animal Services facility construction is nearly complete; final inspections and exterior lighting remain

Staff said the kennel areas and a second cat area are built, artificial turf has been installed in play yards, tension wire and top rail chain-link fence work is underway, and cantilever entrance gates and automatic gate openers are inbound. Weather delayed paving slightly, but staff reported paving and remaining fence work are scheduled to finish this week. Exterior lighting for staff safety during early-evening hours will be installed as a final detail.
Public Works said the contractor will request final inspections and a certificate of occupancy (CO) when these items are complete. The county plans a phased transition: office, intake and dispatch staff will move first once the CO is issued, followed by relocation of animal-holding operations after exterior infrastructure is finalized. Staff said the team expects construction-phase work to wrap up in days to a few weeks, subject to final inspections and weather.
