Clermont City Council approved Oct. 28 a sole‑source purchase and budget amendment to replace a damaged dock system at the city’s waterfront. Assistant Director James Meriwether told council FEMA and insurance will fund the project and that staff recommended the EasyDock floating system as a more durable and flexible option; staff quoted a neighborhood estimate "somewhere in the neighborhood of $160,000" for an EasyDock installation.
Meriwether said divers had located a gangway at the bottom of the lake that could be recovered and possibly reused. The staff presentation noted that any change to the previously used dock system would require FEMA re‑evaluation and could add about two months to the funding process.
Mark Vantrice, president of Lake County Rowing, told council his group’s preference is for low‑profile, framed docks and said AccuDoc installations elsewhere had experienced failures. Council approved the sole‑source purchase and budget amendment with a 4‑1 vote.
