Hot Springs staff ask board to approve $291,721 purchase of Sensus water meters from Core & Main

Luke Lingo, the city’s utility meter manager, told the board the city’s automated water metering system is comprised of water meters, software and related components manufactured by Sensus and stressed system-wide compatibility requires meters of the same brand. Staff requested board consideration of resolution R25-193 to approve the purchase of Sensus meters and associated components from Core & Main, LP under Arkansas purchasing authority in the amount of $291,721.69.
Lingo said staff request covers a variety of commercial meters and radios and that the items will be placed into inventory and used as replacements and as prioritized by highest consumption. When asked by Director Garcia how many meters the purchase covers, staff replied “roughly 430.” Director Webb asked whether the packet specifies the installation locations; staff replied the purchase is for inventory and prioritization would occur based on consumption and need.
The agenda review did not include a formal vote; the resolution will be before the board for action at the Nov. 4 meeting. Staff noted that earlier this year the board determined Core & Main is the sole-source distributor for Sensus products compatible with the city’s system.
