The Surprise City Council unanimously approved six nominations Oct. 21 to fill vacancies on city advisory commissions and administered the oath of office to the appointees.
Council approved reappointments and an appointment for four-year terms expiring June 30, 2029: Katie McCarthy and Desiree Van Loon to the Library Advisory Commission; Mary Ann Riadike to the Library Advisory Commission (appointment); Michael Wallace to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission; Charles Manuel to the Veterans Disability and Human Services Commission; and Madeline Pritchard to the Judicial Selection Advisory Commission. Each vote was recorded by the clerk as a unanimous yes.
New and returning commissioners were asked to come forward and take the oath of office, which included standard affirmations to support the constitutions of the United States and the State of Arizona and to abide by city ordinances and policies.
Council members thanked nominees for volunteering and encouraged continued civic participation.
