Mayor Kelly Marks told the council she and Interim City Manager Christine Davis will appear before the Volusia legislative delegation the next morning to request funding to support three capital projects: Fire Station 68, a police station and a Public Works building. The mayor said the city would prioritize the fire station given current conditions at Station 68 and the perception among legislators that fire projects are currently receiving attention.
Marks said the delegation presentation will include photographs and a representative from the fire department to underline urgency; she said the city will ask for the same funding it sought previously and may consider pursuing projects in phases rather than seeking all funding at once.
Council also discussed whether to pursue a contracted lobbyist. Christine Davis described the city's current relationship with Woodard & Curran and noted that the firm uses Grey Robinson as a lobbyist resource; she said neighboring jurisdictions use lobbyists and that a dedicated lobbyist could help the city pursue grants and legislative requests. The council gave informal direction to return this topic for further discussion and possible action at a future meeting.
