Historical Commission proposes banners, kiosks and design-review clarification

Commissioner Diane Albrecht said the commission has completed a citizen-star recognition for Howard and Peggy Levine, produced a legacy award plaque, and reprinted a Heritage Home booklet. The commission has raised funds toward a banner program and identified 27 people and places for banners along Mill Street. Albrecht said the commission will collect or source photographic materials and will present cost estimates to council before purchases.
The commission also described walking tours that attract 20 to 40 participants and proposed permanent interpretive kiosks or storyboards at the ends of Mill Street to provide maps and context for visitors. "We'd like to request the staff to review the 18 72 township parameters to include a historic commission review of new buildings as well as old buildings," Albrecht said, requesting clarification of design standards for historic sites and how ADUs might be handled.
Councilmembers thanked the commissioners for their volunteer work and asked staff to coordinate the kiosk work with downtown and business groups to avoid redundancy and to prepare cost estimates so council can consider budget implications. No formal budget appropriation was made at the meeting.
