Students lead flag salute; superintendent highlights fall festivals, field repairs and Thanksgiving food drive

The board meeting opened with a student-led flag salute by STAR Camp student-council representatives, who introduced themselves and described camp activities such as rock climbing and tent camping.
Superintendent Dr. Khan highlighted fall activities across the district: school fall festivals, a district pumpkin patch sponsored by the Moreland Education Foundation with a Dia de los Muertos celebration planned, music performances and the annual egg-drop science challenge at MMS. Dr. Khan said Anderson's fall festival raised about $3,000 for that school.
Dr. Khan and site staff described a facilities reinvestment at the EDS athletic field funded from a prior construction change order: crews spent about four weeks replacing broken irrigation valves, repairing backflows and wiring, installing a new watering clock/timer, aerating and reseeding the field. The superintendent thanked grounds staff and contractors for the work.
The superintendent also announced that Teresa Zagadlo was honored as the 2025 Santa Clara County Teacher of the Year; district staff and trustees praised her work. Dr. Khan noted the district's upcoming Thanksgiving food drive in partnership with West Valley Community Services (Nov. 3'14) and a county grant supporting additional counseling and family supports at some sites.
No board action was required on these updates; trustees thanked staff and students for the presentations and community work.
