District launches monthly "Look at Me, I'm 3" sessions to build school readiness

Hendrickson and building staff described a new early-childhood outreach program, "Look at Me, I'm 3," developed from the county community-schools advisory to promote school readiness. The program offers monthly, play-based sessions for three-year-olds and their caregivers tied to the Imagination Library books the children already receive at home. Activities at the first event included sand-play, puzzles, a shared book read-aloud, paint activities, snack bags and goodie bags.
The district ran the first sessions at Fairgrace with morning and evening options; Hendrickson said the morning session drew two children and the district hopes attendance will increase at the December session. She said the program aims to make young children comfortable with school settings before they enter UPK (Universal Pre-K) and kindergarten and to connect families with school and community partners. Next sessions are planned for Dec. 9 at Lanigan, with future monthly dates to be posted.
