District Coherence Council meets with 55 participants; work on mission, culture and pathways continues

Hendrickson reported that the district's first District Coherence Council (DCC) meeting of the year filled the high-school library with 55 participants, including building teams, administrators, teachers, community members, parents and seven students who participated in breakout work. The meeting centered on aligning the district's strategic coherence plan and site-based goals, and attendees rotated through stations addressing culture, systems and structures, learning, and wellness pathways.
Hendrickson said participants identified strengths (expanded pathways, social-emotional learning, mentoring, professional learning teams and data-driven collaboration) and areas for growth (clearer communication, expanded family engagement and consistent implementation across six buildings). The DCC will review survey results at its next meeting on Dec. 8. Hendrickson asked board members to let staff know ahead of time if they plan to attend so the district can avoid quorum issues and cover representation across meetings.
Board members asked how students were selected for the DCC; Hendrickson said principals and site-based teams recruited participants and that the district intends to be open to rotating student members in future meetings.
