The Oak Park City Council on Tuesday approved a façade improvement grant for Get Them Clean Sneaker Service, a new business at 24709 Coolidge, in an amount not to exceed $2,195. The city's façade program allows sign funding for new businesses; staff said the applicant began operations from a home location and recently moved to a storefront on Coolidge.
City Manager Eric Tungay introduced the request and asked Director Kimberly Maroney to explain the grant terms. Maroney said the facade grant can be used for signage for new businesses only, and staff recommended approval for an amount not to exceed $2,195. The council moved, seconded and approved the grant on a unanimous roll call.
Council Member Julie Edgar asked for background on the business; Maroney said the owner previously operated from home, found local demand for sneaker cleaning and opened a brick-and-mortar location on Coolidge. "So the grant funds are gonna be used to purchase a sign for their building," Maroney said.
Ending: The motion passed unanimously. The council did not specify additional conditions; staff will process the grant payment subject to normal administrative requirements for facade-improvement awards.
