The Dental Assisting Council on Feb. 6 voted to approve the Nov. 7, 2024 meeting minutes and received informational updates on examination and licensing statistics and on program and course application approvals.
Council member Fowler moved to accept the minutes as presented; the board recorded the motion as passed on roll call. No substantive public comments were received on the minutes.
Assistant Executive Officer Christie Bell presented informational updates on examination statistics and registered dental assistant (including extended functions) licensing statistics and program and course application approvals. Bell said the tables in the meeting materials are informational only and no board action is required at this time. Council members asked questions about an increase in abandoned applications (staff explained that an application is considered abandoned when deficiencies are not remedied within a year and that staff sends multiple notices and now follows up by phone), and about retention rates for RDAs; members urged stakeholders to investigate retention drivers and suggested surveys to understand why new assistants leave the profession.
Victor Liebert (program compliance) provided the update on program and course application approvals; staff noted a list of available infection-control courses on the board's website and said providers and contact information are maintained there.
No regulatory or legislative action was taken on these informational items.
