Columbia City Board approves engineering rates, multiple street closures and payments

Columbia City’s Board of Works and Safety on Oct. 28 approved a series of routine motions, including updated engineering rates, several street closures tied to community events and a one-day moving closure, masonry restoration work on the Grant Building and three disbursement motions for accounts-payable and payroll.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the $20.25 EUBS engineering rate and to receive the project 1 engineering cost estimate as presented. The board also approved proposal G C B S 435330 (engineering/testing) as presented.
The board approved event-related street closures, including a closure for the Wheels of Woodland County car show set for Aug. 1, 2026. The board discussed coordination with police and fire to keep a fire lane open and to address vendor power needs.
A one-day street closure request for an individual move above Tokyo on Nov. 1, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. was approved. The board also approved masonry restoration work on the north and west elevations of the Grant Building, with contractors agreeing to avoid taking all parking along Van Buren Street and to be sensitive to the upcoming veterans marathon.
Finance motions approved unanimously included payment of accounts-payable checks in the amount of $491,394.38, payment of accounts-payable EFTs totaling $1,022,880.69, and payment of the payroll pay file totaling $290,852.93 (composed of $282,711.24 in base pay plus $8,141.69 in overtime).
All motions were moved, seconded and carried without recorded dissent. The board recorded no further conditions or amendments for the approved items.
