During the superintendent's report, district leadership highlighted extracurricular achievements and community recognition.
The superintendent said the high school football team are undefeated region champions and will be the No. 1 seed in the state playoffs, hosting the first game. The superintendent also reported the marching band placed as state runner-up at the Tennessee Valley Invitational and will compete at a US Bands event in Huntsville.
The superintendent said middle-school students returned from a Washington, D.C., trip and praised school principals and Dr. Kincaid for presentations earlier in the meeting. The superintendent announced that Shanetta Smith was nominated by the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators as a national distinguished principal nominee representing District 1.
The superintendent also referenced prior board recognition of the Mefford family for their work supporting students with special needs and thanked them for ongoing community contributions. Finally, the superintendent reminded trustees of the retiree luncheon on Nov. 6 and said Mayor Billy Hudson planned to attend briefly to greet guests.
