A chamber representative told meeting attendees that eight new investors joined the chamber since August, naming "pediatrics at Central" and "Happy Scoops" among the newcomers.
The representative said the group raised more than $1,300 in a recent drive and that 10% of proceeds were designated for Ochsner and P Anderson Cancer Center, though final totals were still being confirmed. "We ended up raising over $1,300 for Ochsner and P Anderson. With that, 10% of our proceeds went to Ochsner and P Anderson Cancer Center," the representative said.
The chamber announced a Nov. 12 luncheon that will feature Katie Kilpatrick from the Department of Children and Family Services. The representative said participants who want to become foster families can complete orientation at the luncheon. "If participants come and they want to be a foster family, they can actually go through orientation ... so they don't have to take time out of their day," the representative said.
Other upcoming events listed were the Running of the Elves and a pancake cook-off on Nov. 22 and a Christmas parade on Dec. 6. The representative said final fundraising numbers will be confirmed and shared with recipients when available.
Meeting minutes did not record a formal vote or an action item related to these announcements; the remarks were informational.
