Muscle Shoals board adopts vaping awareness, education and prevention policy

At its regular meeting, the Muscle Shoals City Schools Board of Education voted to amend board policy 4.02 and to adopt new board policy 6.28, both addressing vaping awareness, education and prevention.

The superintendent told trustees the changes follow model language provided by the State Board of Education and recommended approving both items on a single vote. "I recommend board policy action, to amend board policy 4.02 as presented and to approve the new policy board action 6.28, both related to awareness, education, and prevention," the superintendent said.

Trustees moved, seconded and approved the two policy actions by a voice vote; the presiding officer recorded no opposition. The superintendent said the 4.02 change adds limited language to an existing policy while 6.28 is new, model policy language the district was required to implement after recent state legislation.

The board did not record separate roll-call tallies in the transcript; the vote was taken by voice and the presiding officer noted there were no opposing votes.
