Public services committee previews annexation and comp plan open houses; trail bridge nearing completion

The City of Yelm public services committee told the council on Oct. 28 that staff will bring a resolution for an annexation interlocal agreement with Thurston County to the council on Dec. 9 and that the city plans public outreach for residents concerned about annexation.
The committee said an open house on the comprehensive plan is scheduled for Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the community center (planning commission will be canceled that day to allow staff to attend the open house). Committee members also reported construction is underway on a trail bridge over the Nisqually River and that the bridge is expected to open in early December if work proceeds on schedule.
Committee members encouraged residents to attend outreach events to learn about annexation and the comprehensive plan and said a public open house will provide an opportunity for questions and comment. No formal council action was taken at the Oct. 28 meeting on annexation or comp-plan adoption; the committee indicated further council consideration is expected in future meetings.
