Superintendent highlights $30,000 STEAM grant; committee hears community and athletics updates

Dr. Cron, superintendent of Rockland Public Schools, told the school committee on Monday that Rogers Middle School science teacher Laura Stroko secured a $30,000 STEAM life sciences grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.
"We want to congratulate and thank Laura Stroko," Dr. Cron said, noting the award will support life-sciences programming and connects to work the district is doing to expand STEAM and STEM pathways at the middle and high school levels.
Committee members also passed along extracurricular and community items: congratulations to fall sports teams heading to playoffs and to the RHS varsity cheer team for three first-place finishes; a reminder about a family night at Phelps; and two student-led charitable efforts. The RHS Key Club is running "Socktober" through the end of October to collect new warm socks for shelters and will hold a drive-up coat collection from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Rockland High School.
