Parents and educators told the Monongalia County Schools Board of Education on Oct. 28 that elementary school meals have declined in quality and quantity, leaving many students hungry.
Heidi Triplett, a parent of kindergarten and third-grade students, opened public comments with photos she said show a stark contrast between lunches in neighboring counties and meals served in Monongalia County. "Our children's plates are half the serving size of their peers in other counties," Triplett said. She told the board that the district's "offer vs. serve" approach allows students to leave the line with only an entree, a juice and milk, and that staff report buying snacks with their own money…
